MODEL UNITED NATIONS
Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about civics, current events, effective communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy.
In a Model United Nations students take on the roles of diplomats and participate in a simulated session of an authentic intergovernmental organization (IGO). Participants research a country, take on the roles played by diplomats, investigate international issues, engage in debate, deliberate, consult and develop positive solutions to world problems.
During a conference, students must employ a variety of communication and critical thinking skills in order to represent the policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, positive and effective group communication, viable research, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, conflict resolution, note taking and technical writing.
The MUN team at Lahore American School is available to high school students interested in developing these skills and representing the school at conferences in Pakistan and around the world. In the past few years, LAS has sent teams to Model UN conferences in the UAE, Qatar, and Russia.
