Lahore American School is a "lighthouse school of excellence." As a Society we take great pride in holding our students to high academic, behavioral and ethical standards.

Once a student and family are admitted to the LAS Society, we will never allow or accept failure. We will do whatever it takes to ensure success for our students.

Our highly qualified faculty is committed to utilizing instructional talents and skills to deliver a goals-driven, standards-based curriculum. The curriculum must be easily understood, seamlessly articulated and must contain expectations defined for student performance at each grade level and in each content area. Expectations will be clearly stated as written student performance descriptors and classroom assessment will measure student growth on these descriptors.

LAS has identified thirty (30) learner goals for key areas within the curriculum with accompanying standards as follows :


  Goal 1 : Read with understanding and fluency.
    A. Can apply word analysis and vocabulary skills to comprehend selections.
B. Can apply reading strategies to improve understanding and fluency.
C. Can comprehend a broad range of reading materials.
     
  Goal 2 : Read and understand literature representative of various societies, eras and ideas.
   

A. Can understand how literacy elements and techniques are used to convey meaning.
B. Can read and interpret a variety of literary works.

     
  Goal 3 : Write to communicate for a variety of literary works.
    A. Can use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization and structure.
B. Can compose well organized and coherent writing for specific purposes and audiences.
C. Can communicate ideas in writing to accomplish a variety of purposes.
     
  Goal 4 : Listen and speak effectively in a variety of situations.
    A. Can listen effectively in formal and informal situations.
B. Can speak effectively using language appropriate to the situation and audience.
     
  Goal 5 : Use the language arts to acquire, assess and communicate information.
    A. Can locate, organize and use information from various sources to answer questions. solve problems and communicate ideas.

C. Can apply acquired information, concepts and ideas to communicate in a variety of formats.


  Goal 6 : Demonstrate and apply a knowledge and sense of numbers, including numeration and operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), patterns, ratios and proportions.
    A. Can demonstrate knowledge and use of numbers and their many representations in a broad range of theoretical and practical settings.
B. Can investigate, represent and solve problems using number facts, operations and their properties, algorithms and relationships.
C. Can compute and estimate using mental mathematics, paper and pencil methods, calculators and computers.
D. Can solve problems using comparison of quantity, ratios, proportions and percents.
     
  Goal 7: Estimate, make and use measurements of objects, quantities and relationships and determine acceptable levels of accuracy.
