High school at LAS offers a challenging
curriculum that is appropriate to each student's individual needs.
With the support of teachers and the college counselor, students
are encouraged to strive for excellence
in their coursework as academic performance is the foremost criteria
for college selection.
Junior year is an important time for students
to begin to seriously investigate college options and developing
the skills to become their own advocate.
In the fall of sophomore and junior years,
students begin this process by taking the PSAT. For juniors, it
is important that they spend time and energy researching their
college options. At LAS, students can utilize the software known
as Naviance through the guidance department whereby they can use
the internet to connect them with information about college selections
and choices.

During junior year, students are advised of
the following :
To register for and take the SAT in May or June. |
To use the Post-Graduate Planning Center and/or
Family Connection to research schools. |
To request information from colleges. |
To visit colleges during Spring and Summer. |
To read any information sent by colleges so they will be
aware of important deadlines for admissions procedures, expectations
for senior courses, details of specific programs and their
requirements.. |
To compile their academic resume, including honors and awards,
extracurricular activities, community activities and job experience. |
To refine their personal statement. |
Begin to narrow down their college choices. Applications
are lengthy. College application fees range from $25 to $60
each. |
To ask the counselor and up to two teachers
if they would write you a positive letter of recommendation
as requested on college applications. To speak with their
counselor if they need help in determining whether or not
they might need letters of recommendation. |
