Lahore – Ancient
City
Lahore never ceases to be
interesting. It is a combination of the very old and the ultra-modern
– truly a city in transition. You will see new high rises and very
swish shops in some areas of Lahore, and in the Old City, you will
see the famous Moghul era Lahore Fort, spectacular mosques and
narrow, winding alleyways between leaning buildings that still house
a large number of Lahorites.
Traveling around Lahore
can be an exciting challenge, and many of us use school drivers when
we venture to less known parts of the city. Our LAS drivers are
friendly, knowledgeable and almost always available at a modest fee.
Some faculty members choose to hire their own personal drivers, and
that is fine as well.
Everything you need is
available in this city. If you feel you must have particular imported
items, you can find them, but you will pay quite a high price. Most
of us do not do this, finding the local items to be just fine –
especially the wonderful, yearlong fruits and vegetables! A highlight
of shopping in Lahore is the use of fabrics and fibers – seen in
stunning handmade carpets and gorgeous clothing materials. Tailoring
here is inexpensive and of high quality – not to mention almost
instantaneous!
There are book stores,
DVD stores, and excellent restaurants – from the elegant Polo
Lounge to the American stand-bys of McDonald s, Pizza Hut and KFC.
We are blessed with a number of beautiful walking parks,
you can ride at the Polo Club, or you can swim in the LAS heated
pool. Lahore has numerous good gyms, salons, and home décor
shops.
