21st Century Technology and Learning At LAS
LAS is an international school that is dedicated to providing a 21st Century education for our students. We are continually updating and improving our technology. This includes both hardware and software. Our Information Technology promotes both active and engaged learning. Our administrators and teachers use online programs such as Google Calendar and Docs to share information efficiently and professionally. This in turn enables school administrators to better manage the school more efficiently and effectively. Our middle and high school teachers also share Testing and Planning Calendars with colleagues, administrators, parents and students. In the middle and elementary school the teachers share monthly curriculum information on a Planning Calendar.
We have adopted Moodle as our e-learning or distance learning tool. All of our students have weekly instruction on Moodle. This allows our students the benefit from both the teacher to student instruction and online instruction and reinforcement of skills taught. All students must have access to:
- a computer (the school uses PCs)
- high speed internet
- printer (with ink)
- scanner
All of our classroom teachers have blogs which are used to celebrate learning. Some are used to share information, interact with students, and publicize events happening at the school and in their classrooms. We have SMARTBoards (interactive whiteboards) in classrooms first through fifth grade and the have three computer labs, one of which is a laptop lab. This lab is for the teachers to take their classes to for technology projects. We have a number of large screen TV's that are connected to computers for classroom use. We are continually adding to our number of digital cameras, video cameras, scanners and we just acquired a 30 piece AlphaSmart unit. Our school is in the process of becoming completely wireless. All classrooms first through twelfth grade are using GradeQuick to take attendance and record grades. This is a very popular program and very effective in following student progress. Most of our classroom and lab computers run Windows XP with Microsoft Office 2007.We have updated our:
