At Lahore American School we believe that

and specific grade level goals and objectives are established to
meet the standards and contents required for individual success.
Our high school curricula performance standards
are uniform to ensure rigorous student academic performance and
are based on a philosophy of teaching and learning that is consistent
with current research, exemplary instructional practices and American
standards of education. Our programs provide every content area
a set of competencies for high school course while identifying
the essential knowledge and skills that all students need to be
active, lifelong learners in a global society.

Every high school student at LAS is required
to carry a minimum of seven courses. In order to graduate, a student
must earn 25 units in grades 9 through 12. Graduation from LAS
means that the student has satisfactorily completed the required
course of study. The following is a list of the minimum required

The high school English program offers a
rigorous university preparatory course of studies. The chief
aim is provide students with the skills, attitudes and knowledge
to participate in a diverse and changing world. All learning
in the core and elective English courses is presented in
the context of connecting it to practical applications.
The program emphasizes listening, speaking, writing, reading,
viewing and critical thinking skills, and is designed to
heighten students’ appreciation of literature and
increase their awareness of the importance of language in
their daily lives. Each course integrates vocabulary development,
grammar, usage and mechanics, composition, oral communication
and critical reading, writing and thinking with the intensive
study of literary works.

and Urdu from beginners to advanced. The goals of both course
are to teach students to develop basic communication skills

known as the communicative approach. The main objective is
to engage students into creative use of day-to-day French
and Urdu in different situations including, compositions,

Computer Science is a laboratory-based course
designed to provide an overview of and experience in multimedia
technology. Sounds, images, graphics and video are the informational
projects from which students will construct media rich knowledge
structures. Students will develop necessary skills and obtain
hands-on experiences working with a variety of multimedia
tools to build linear and non-linear interactive products.
Students will learn to use a collection of software tools
and design techniques to create a variety of formatted products.
AP Computer Science A is a full-year course designed to teach
the fundamentals of programming with Java programming language.

Art provides students with the opportunity
to develop their artistic abilities and interests within
a variety of areas. Students are given the opportunity to
find and build their strength in a variety of media within
a particular assignment. This course exposes students to
a broad spectrum of art styles allowing each student to
find and develop their particular area of interest. Students
work to achieve higher levels of proficiency in art. Studio
art is designed for students who are seriously interested
in the practical experience of art. Visual communications
provides students with the opportunity to continue to develop
their artistic abilities and interests within a variety
of areas including drawing, painting, design, illustration
and mixed media. Students plan visual presentations for
such things as advertisements, brochures, package designs,
magazine covers and billboards. Choir will introduce the
serious student of choral music to the styles and genres
of music from the Renaissance to the 20th Century. It will
include the study of music history and music theory.

Islamiyat introduces students to Islam and the
main values and beliefs of the religion. This course consists
of four areas of study namely Islam and its basic concepts,
the biography of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the four caliphs
and the translations and explanations of Surahs, Ayats and
Ahadis. This course will also teach how to perform prayer
and ablution. This Islamiyat course is required for students
who intend to stay in Pakistan for higher education as it
is compulsory for admission in many local colleges.

outdoor pursuits. Students participate in activities designed
to develop goal setting, decision making, communication and
social skills. Community Recreation and Leadership focuses
on the development of a personalized approach to healthy active
living through participation in a variety of sports and community
recreational activities that have the potential to engage
students’ interests throughout their lives. |
