The South Asia Inter-School
Association (SAISA) is made up of 10 member schools in the
South Asia region. The fundamental
aim of SAISA is to encourage and promote a positive spirit
of cooperation in
competitive sporting events.
As an active member
of SAISA, LAS takes part in a number of sporting events
throughout the school year within Pakistan and also travels
to organized sporting activities in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka
and Bangladesh.
During this school year, SAISA
sponsors ten (10) varsity sports conventions and during
the next school year, sponsorship will be organised for
six (6) conventions in a number of locations. Students and
parents must adhere to SAISA's prescribed rules and regulations
and the LAS code of conduct while travelling to and from
convention locations and taking part in these events.
During the present school year,
LAS subsidizes 100% of the SAISA fee and 40% of the airfare
costs for students selected for all SAISA events. Next year
LAS will subsidize 50% of the airfare costs for students
selected to attend an event. All varsity teams will practice
for six (6) weeks prior to the competition. Practices may
be held before school, after school and/or on Saturdays
depending upon the sport and facilities availability. Next
year all varsity teams will practice for eight (8) weeks
prior to a competition. Practices will be held three (3)
or four (4) times per week and may be held before school,
after school and/or on Saturdays.
The four (4) SAISA schools in
Pakistan, often referred to as ‘SAISA West’,
hold inter-school competitions in before the regular SAISA
conventions or hold their own invitational events.

The team lacked full components for the 15 to 18 year
old categories as well as the girls' sections. Nevertheless,
the swimmers trained hard and showed much grit and determination.
They were proud to "not finish last" despite
lacking numbers for a full team and were especially
proud of the individual accomplishments of a number
of individual players. |

Three high school students went to chilly but scenic
Katmandu to share their talents and learn new techniques
as artists. This is the second year in a row that LAS
has sent artists to participate in this event. Students
must meet criteria identifying them as highly capable
artists in order to be selected to represent LAS in
this event. |

|
Our Buffs Boys’ Basketball team worked passionately
to improve themselves but came 8th in the recent SAISA
Tournament in Chenna. Nonetheless, coaches and Athletic
Directors from all over SAISA were impressed with their
determination and never-give-up attitude. They represented
their school like gentlemen and are respected throughout
SAISA. |

On December 3rd and 4th, three schools from SAISA
West participated in an exciting T-10 Cricket Tournament
held at Aitchison College ACOBA Field. Karachi American
School won the title and the Sportsmanship trophy, being
undefeated and united in discipline throughout the series.
Nevertheless, the LAS Buffs ran up 113 runs in one match
and were proud of their skipper and fellow team members. |

SAISA Girls' Soccer |

Overseas School of Colombo, Sri Lanka |

|
The Girls’ Soccer team battled mud, illness
and tough teams in Colombo to take 6th place. With the
exception of powerhouse AES of Delhi, the girls were
even with all other teams at half time. The second half
proved to be the challenge, and the girls ended with
a 1-4 record. Ever positive, the girls were thrilled
to win against Chennai in their final match. |

SAISA MS Soccer and Volleyball |

|
International School of Islamabad, Pakistan |
| |
|
|
| |
|
Middle school girls and boys soccer and volleyball
teams travelled to Islamabad for friendly competition
with Murree Christian School and the International
School of Islamabad. The girls showed amazing spirit
and sportsmanship on the volleyball court, cheering
after every point, win or lose. In soccer, they fought
back after losing two matches to win the 3rd.
The boys fielded two teams, blue and gold. The gold
team won the soccer title with blue taking 3rd. While
the boys did not have as strong a showing on the volleyball
court as the girls, they worked together and will
bring solid skills to the court again next year.

SAISA Tennis Tournament |

American Embassy School, New Delhi, India |

|
Our LAS tennis team were all set to serve and smash
on the same courts used for the recent Commonwealth
Games in Delhi. Unfortunately we were turned away from
the Lahore airport on the day of the flight due to civil
unrest in the transit city of Karachi and as a result,
the seven players and coaches were unable to compete
this year. |

SAISA Girls' Basketball |

|
Lincoln School, Katmandu, Nepal |
| |
|
|
| |
|
Seven dedicated girls made up a small but tough basketball
team this year and showed amazing fitness, toughness
and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. The girls
won the first SAISA game in three years for the Buffs
beating the Geckos of Colombo. The Geckos went on to
take third place so this was no easy feat. Surely our
Girls' Basketball program is on its way up! |

SAISA Boys' Soccer |
| |
|
American International School of Dhaka, Bangladesh |
| |
|
|
| |
|
The LAS Boys' Soccer team has finished in the top
four teams at SAISA for over two decades but this year's
team showed the unity and emotional discipline needed
to make it to the finals. Though LAS had many chances
on goal, the final score was 0 to 2 against a tough
team from Dhaka. Though Dhaka had the home crowd cheering
them on, all the other teams were cheering for the Buffs.
The sportsmanship they had shown throughout the tournament
and their unceasing fitness and drive on the field earned
the respect of everyone who watched them play. Well
done to these boys for the highest achievement of an
LAS team for the past two years! |

Invitational MS Basketball Tournament |

|
Lahore American School, Pakistan |
| |
|
|

|
If you had walked onto the LAS campus at 6:00 am on
any Tuesday or Thursday morning in January and February
2011 you would have found a dedicated team of ten boys
preparing for the LAS Invitational Middle School Basketball
Tournament. A MS Girls' Basketball team practiced on
Mondays and Fridays and both teams arrived every Saturday
to learn to shoot, pass and dribble.
On February 19th, 2011 LAS hosted an Invitational MS
Basketball Tournament. Despite cancellations by Karachi
American School (KAS) and International School of Islamabad
(ISOI), our SAISA friends at Murree Christian School
(MCS) joined LAS and teams from the International School
of Choueifat and Scarsdale International School in Lahore
to battle for basketball trophies. |

is what the nine members of the LAS SAISA MUN team did
whilst in Sri Lanka on the first weekend of March 2011.
The nine members of the MUN team were selected based
on the skills they exhibited in weekly meetings, weekend
sessions and local MUN simulations at Aitchison College
