The curricula for Lahore American School were developed
with a great deal of support from the Illinois State Board
of Education, one of our educational partners.
The L.A.S. curricula are standards based curricula.
Standards based curricula have as their starting point,
developing goals that one wishes for all of its graduates
to meet by graduation. Based on these goals, a number
of standards are developed for each goal. When students
accomplish these standards, they will meet the goals.
The Goals and Standards are common across all grade
levels. However, the manner by which each student at
each grade level will meet the standard is further defined
by Grade Level Performance Descriptors or Indicators.
On the pages that follow, we have presented:
· The 30 Learner Goals we hold for all of
our graduates.
· The 99 standards that must be met by our
students in order to meet the goals.
· An example of one goal with one standard
with various performance descriptors /indicators shown
for Grades 2, 6, and 11/12

The Sample Goal provided is Goal # 2.
Goal 2 -
"Read and understand literature representative
of various societies, eras, and ideas"
Standard 2A -
"Can understand how literary elements and techniques
are used to convey meaning"
Performance Descriptors - Grade Level Performance Descriptors
or Indicators are presented for Grade 2 (Stage B), Grade
6 (Stage F), and Grades 11/12 (Stage J).
- These descriptors show the type action your child
will engage when meeting Standard 2A at their specific
grade level.
(Stages and Grade Levels align so Stage A is comparable
to Grade One, Stage B to Grade Two, etc. At the High
School Level, Stage I is comparable to Grades 9 and
10 while Stage J is comparable to Grades 11 and 12).
By reviewing this material, prospective parents, students,
and teachers, can see the clarity and purpose with which
we have developed or curricula. Parents who are considering
enrolling their child at LAS may visit our Admissions
Director where you may review our entire curriculum
on site.
