Admission officers at colleges
and universities expect students to complete successfully a challenging
set of courses. While it is important to take challenging courses,
it is equally important that courses be chosen to increase a student's
chances of success, remembering that courses of study will vary
from student to student. For example, a student who has interest
in the science and engineering fields, should choose a high school
program that will contain more courses in the math and science
areas.
There is no magical number of Advanced Placement
courses that will result in a guaranteed college acceptance. Advice
should be sought from teachers and the college counselor to assist
students in making the right decisions in their chosen high school
